Has technology transformed communication? 

Just released: Human Communication Research's October issue on communication and technology edited by Joseph Walther and Patti Valkenburg.

Thirty years ago, Human Communication Research hosted a Symposium on Mass and Interpersonal Communication. Authors argued that emerging digital media didn’t fit existing areas of study, defy categorization as either interpersonal or mass media channels, and that “technological change may facilitate a long-needed paradigm shift in communication science” (Reardon & Rogers, 1988, p. 297).

Has it? How has information technology transformed communication and communication research? A new symposium on the merger of mass and interpersonal communication via interactive communication technology, edited by Joseph Walther and Patti Valkenburg, is the focus of the October issue of HCR.
